In the first talkback piece, lifelong Gooner Jack Hawkins addresses Thierry Henry's impromptu move to sunny Catalan pastures.
Same Old Arsenal...Alwa
ys Leaving. By Jack Hawkins
"I've never played in Spain and never will. This is my last contract." - Thierry Henry, May '06
"Yes I've chosen Barcelona; I'm going to sign there for the next four seasons." - Thierry Henry, June '07
Proof that A: footballers are lying cunts, and B: that the signing of contracts means absolutely nothing in the football world. As an Arsenal fan, I am sitting here wondering what the hell my club is doing. It seems that the club is crumbling and no one can be bothered to do anything. No promise of signings, no Arsene coming out telling us not to panic, nothing. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool all higher in the league than us this season, are going on spending sprees, however Arsenal decide that in order to get better we should sell all of our players, including our once talismatic 'Mr Arsenal' Thierry Henry. Babel looked like a good opportunity, a confident young man with strength and pace, but he has now distanced himself with a move this year. Instead he has stated he would like to stay at Ajax for one more year. Tevez was another name thrown into the pot by the ever annoying tabloids. However he seems to be sucking off any team that mentions transfers, in order to bulk up his already over inflated valuation. And then there's Anelka. Apparently on his honeymoon at the moment, Arsenal have been strongly linked with this clinical hitman, a man who has managed to score some wonder goals for a shit Bolton team, while looking even more bored than Henry. But still I sit here...nothing, the invincible Arsenal team seems a decade ago, and I feel things are going to get worse....
